Yes, you can absolutely outgrow an allergy, especially food allergies. And the probability increases depending on how old you were when the reaction occurred. (The younger you are during the first reaction - especially if it is in your toddler years - the more likely you will outgrow it.)
It sounds as if you do not have a severe anaphylactic allergy since you can eat things made with egg. Unfortunately, you would be hard pressed to find a doctor to tell you to go "all out" and eat a bunch of eggs without first undergoing allergy testing.
I would guess you were probably OK to eat eggs, depending on how severe your initial reaction was. BUT - I would not recommend it without first consulting an allergist. That being said, most doctors would not have recommended trying ANYTHING with eggs without being tested.
