Originally gaining approval in 1997 as a drug to be used only as an alternative to lymphoma that was not very responsive to chemotherapy, it is now considered to be a standard initial treatment for more aggressive non-Hodgkins lymphomas, coupled with CHOP chemotherapy. Furthermore, it has proven itself to be safe enough for consideration as a potential treatment even for non-cancerous conditions like rheumatoid arthritis.
