How could I argue both sides of incresing a terminal cancer patients morphine? Suppose the patient when awake is in such pain that all she can do is cry and pull her body into a fetal position. The patients family wants her to be completely oblivious
How could I argue both sides of incresing a terminal cancer patients morphine? Suppose the patient when awake is in such pain that all she can do is cry and pull her body into a fetal position. The patients family wants her to be completely oblivious to the pain, which does seem logically after battling cancer, chemo and radiation but if I had to make an argument to keep the morphine at the same rate what would be the benefit ot that?

There is not a debate. To let a terminally ill patient suffer is cruel. There is no ceiling to a morphine dose. Give this person enough pain meds to eradicate the pain. period.
The worst side effect of this is constipation. Usually you can deal with that. Yes, you will decrease their respiratory rate, but big deal. In real life, no one cares about that when you
