And the reason for this to happen is that a normal gene mutates and liberates the cell from the system¡¯s control. There are many mutation associated with many types of cancer, so asking which mutation causes cancer, need a more specific question. You could ask, what¡¯s the main cause of breast cancer, for example, and then I could give you a list of mutations that cause (or are likely to produce) breast cancer.
And if you keep asking why do mutations occur, the answer is because this is one of the mechanisms by which life evolves. Without mutation, there is no evolution.
