Treatment plans are to have the input of all disciplines-social services, therapist, counselors, psychiatrist, physicians, client, family and nursing staff. Where I work only the nurse does the treatment plan, we get our info from the physicians admitting note and talking to the patient, no other disciplines provide any input. I was told that as nurses we are not allowed to do treatment plans--just need to find the correct answer if at possible the legalities of nurses doing treatment plans. Thank you
Best answer:
I am not aware of any prohibition toward nurses doing treatment plans in a mental health facility. To my knowledge this is not an uncommon practice. I am not aware of any regulation or citation that this would be out of the scope of practice. However, the laws could vary from state to state.
