these sinus cavities are meant to be empty to give resonance to ur voice bt they are lined with a mucus membrane which gets inf lammed during sinusitis.this inflammation causes collection of fluid which is thick in nature and does go out into the nostrils from the small pore there.thus the collection of this mucus fluid causes heaviness and the pressure exerted by it on the walls of the sinus cavity causes pain.the best way is to get the mucus diluted by using decongestants,taking a lot of steam and doing deep breathing exercises which cause movement in the cavity and get the fluid out to make u feel lighter.
